A WELL REGULATED MILITIA? TODAY? - What is the Militia? Section 311, Title 10 of the United States Code recognizes the unorganized militia of the United States as all able-bodied male citizens between 17 and 45 years of age who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia. The law also includes provisions for militia participation by female, older and prospective citizens. The militia is LEGAL according to U.S. law. The militia is NOT a renegade organization as portrayed by the media and some politicians. - What is its purpose? The purpose of the militia is the defense of the Republic and the State from all its enemies, whether they be foreign or domestic. We do this by maintaining a program of training and preparedness for emergency situations as well as by educating ourselves and others about potential dangers to our constitutionally protected way of life in these united States of America. - Who is in charge? Militia leadership is democratically elected at a series of levels beginning at the Brigade, or county unit, where a Commander is elected who in turn votes for a multi-county Division Commander. The general membership votes for a State or Theatre Commander. A Commander may serve until he or she leaves the position or until the membership votes for a new Commander. The actual structure may vary depending on the needs or desires or a particular area. - What kind of training does the militia do? Militia training includes a variety of areas that would increase our effectiveness in any time of National or State emergency. These include but are not necessarily limited to first aid, self defense, organization, transportation and navigation, communication, equipment maintenance and usage, as well as training in military field tactics. Training is typically held at times and places convenient to the participating unit and is held year-round to ensure a constant state of readiness. Most militia members find personal training to be a source of personal growth and espirit de corps. Militia training includes the mind as well as the body. Study of the Constitution and historical issues will be a significant part of your militia training. Militia members share knowledge in all these areas in order to provide for a strong defense of freedom. - What about racism or sexism in the militia? There is none. The militia welcomes members of all races and creeds as well as of both genders. A member may hold any position that they are qualified to fill. Despite recent media attempts to portray us as otherwise, we are an organization that welcomes all who share our cause. YOU are invited to join our noble cause...the defense of liberty. - Is the militia a threat to a peaceful society? The militia is more accurately called a guarantor of a peaceful society. The militia is strictly a DEFENSIVE organization. Our function is to preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the State of Michigan as well as the citizenry at large. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary for the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." -Second amendment to the Constitution of the United States "Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state" -Article 1, section 6, Constitution of Michigan We invite you to join us in a commitment to preserve and protect the Constitutional governance of the Republic and of the State of Michigan.
